The portable classrooms located at Timber Creek are known as 'Silver Bullets' because of their rounded shape and unpainted aluminium cladding.
They are of heritage value to the Northern Territory because they are representative examples of schools used in remote areas throughout the 1960s and 1970s and, in some cases, the 1980s. Established in 1984 the Silver Bullets school complex at Timber Creek (comprising classroom accommodation, teacher's accommodation and ablution facilities) is especially valued by the Timber Creek community because of the role these caravans played in the social and educational life of the township.
