Discover the history, science and thrill of gold mining in Tennant Creek and the Barkly.
The Battery Hill Gold Mining & Heritage Centre is the site of the historic No 3 Government Gold Stamp Battery, where it all started with the 1930's outback gold rush. The centre overlooks the town and the surrounding countryside.
Enjoy the underground mine tour and wander through three museum exhibits (costs apply):
• "Freedom, Fortitude and Flies", a look at social life on the goldfields during the early formative years;
• The McLaughlin Minerals Collection, a spectacular array of mineral samples both local, and from around the world
• "100 Years ANZAC Spirit-Albert Borella VC", a journey from Tennant Creek to Darwin and the Western Front.
Self-guided nature walks and static machinery displays are found around the site .
The Battery Hill Gold Mining & Heritage Centre is 1½ kilometres from the Tennant Creek town centre along Peko Road. The centre also houses the Tennant Creek Visitor Information Centre.
