River cruising around Katherine

Paddle power

For adventure seekers, hit the river by canoe or kayak. Nitmiluk National Park, and the Katherine, Daly and Flora Rivers all offer superb opportunities. Bring your own gear or hire a single or double canoe. Paddle or let yourself drift through the diverse river scenery and wildlife. Stop along the way for picnics and swimming, stay overnight and sleep in a swag beneath the stars.

Launch your own boat

Head out from a boat ramp in Elsey National Park along the serene Roper River to explore historic sites, enjoy top-notch fishing and relax in warm, crystal clear pools. Cruise along the Flora River for a tranquil waterway expedition lined by dense vegetation and extraordinary tufa formations at Kathleen and Djarrung Falls.

The river by season

Rivers rise during December to April, which can restrict some activities. Cruises vary from season to season, but offer spectacular opportunities year-round. Canoeing and kayaking are generally undertaken between May and November.
