The memorial comprises a plaque fixed to a boiler dedicated to civilians who worked on the railway.

There is a section of track, an engine and two flatbed carriages associated with the site. This is located on the western edge of Ryan Park which is directly off the Stuart Highway at the northern end of Katherine, just before the historic Railway Bridge.
