Tactile Arts is a member-based, not-for-profit organisation that has been showcasing and promoting makers of contemporary art and craft in the top end of the Northern Territory since 1973.
Tactile Arts Studios and Gallery actively support artists and craft practitioners at every stage of their careers by providing access to multiple platforms from which to develop skills both creatively and professionally.
Their vision is to see a world in which handmade art is valued in everyday life.
To achieve this, they present a progressive annual program of exhibitions, workshops, artist residencies and major events. They operate a retail shop and provide access to specialised studios and equipment fundamental to the production of art and craft, including textiles, printmaking, glass, jewellery, and ceramics.
The gallery and studios are located on the picturesque grounds of the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. Tactile Arts also runs two boutique retail spaces, one at Parliament House in Darwin City and the other onsite on the grounds of the Museum and Art Gallery of the NT.
Proceeds made through Tactile Arts directly support artists and crafts practitioners in the Northern Territory.
Tactile Arts Gallery and onsite Boutique are open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm.
